Imani Mfalme Shu’l is a lead organizer with Community Defense of East Tennessee, a grassroots organization that provides support to individuals and families facing criminal charges in Knoxville and surrounding counties.
Community Defense offers a safe space and strategic support to navigate the criminal justice system and are part of a national network practicing participatory defense, a community organizing model that empowers individuals and communities to impact the outcome of cases and change the landscape of power in the criminal justice system. CDET's work is focused on ending mass incarceration and fostering education, liberation, support, and empowerment while actively confronting injustices and advocating for equity, social change, and restoration.
Imani is also a national participatory defense trainer and organizer on staff at De-Bug, and an artist, writer, community organizer, and builder.
