Philanthropy should not replace the role of government in providing social services and a strong social safety net; therefore, we invest primarily in projects driving towards systemic change.

LEADERSHIP

When we find leaders we believe in, we invest in them for the long term with unrestricted multi-year funding, provide additional technical support, and trust in them to succeed. We prioritize investing in individuals who have lived experience with the systems we want to change, including crime survivors, formerly incarcerated people, and those with family members in the system.

HIGH-RISK CATALYTICS FUNDING

Galaxy Gives sees itself as providing “risk capital” to the philanthropic sector. We aim to focus on sectors or specific causes that have received relatively little attention from the public, institutional funders, and nonprofits. We seek to invest in young causes and leaders with high potential.

COALITION-BUILDING

To maximize impact, we seek to build cross-sector momentum around issue areas. As a result, Galaxy typically grants matching grants or co-funds with several funders through aligned giving.

FLEXIBLE GIVING

We believe in using all of the tools in our toolbox, which means we make 501(c)3, 501(c)4, hard-money, impact, and in-kind investments.

BUILDING POWER

Galaxy supports organizations that are led and staffed by underrepresented groups and/or are building power among underrepresented groups.
