Taij Kumarie Moteelall is a visionary, healer, and multi-disciplinary artist whose work seamlessly blends artistic expression with social justice advocacy.
Born in Guyana and raised in the United States, Taij has dedicated her life to advancing equity, inclusion, solidarity, and justice. She transitioned into a full-time artistic career in 2022 with support from Creatives Rebuild New York, allowing her to focus on bold and transformative projects that connect art with activism.
Taij is a principal at Media Sutra, where she merges storytelling and resource mobilization to foster community well-being and wealth-building. She currently serves as the first Arts + Activism Resident with Jahajee Sisters, where she leads efforts to advance gender justice within the Indo-Caribbean community. She is the writer and director of Jahajees Rising, an episodic television series that began as a multi-arts theater production in 2018, inspired by the first homicide in New York City that year.
Taij is also the producer of 34 Days: The Fight for Dyett, a feature-length documentary that chronicles a historic hunger strike by a Black South Side Chicago community fighting to save their neighborhood High School from closure. As a certified Restorative Justice Circle Keeper, Taij’s approach to justice is holistic, focusing on healing and redemption over retribution. She also developed the FAB (Fearless, Abundant, Bold) coaching methodology, which is designed to support creative entrepreneurs and social justice movement leaders.
Taij co-founded Blackout Arts Collective, a national network of BIPOC artists and activists, where she produced national tours, theater projects, and creative events that amplified the conversation around mass incarceration and prison abolition. Her lifelong commitment to blending art and activism positions her as a transformative figure whose work inspires new visions for justice and solidarity. Through her diverse artistic endeavors, coaching, and advocacy, Taij is leading a movement toward a more equitable and just world.
